First Annual Crestone Interfaith Summit
Complete 8-day itinerary — August 4–11, 2025 — Crestone, Colorado
Arrive in Crestone. Check in at Vajra Vidya Retreat Center. Get settled, rest, and acclimate to the high altitude. Explore the grounds and meet fellow participants informally.
ArrivalGuided orientation to Crestone's sacred geography — the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the valley's history as Hopi ancestral land, and the unique interfaith community that has gathered here for decades.
Interfaith opening ceremony with traditional smudging, group intention-setting, and introductions. Participants share their tradition, their hope for the summit, and their commitment to the journey ahead.
CeremonyShared vegetarian meal to begin the week of community, conversation, and connection.
Communal morning meditation at the retreat center followed by a nourishing breakfast to prepare for the day's walk.
The summit's defining public event: a joyful march through the heart of Crestone carrying the World Peace Walk banner. Participants from all traditions — Buddhist monks, Christian contemplatives, Hindu practitioners, Indigenous elders, Rastafari community members, and seekers of all backgrounds — walk together in solidarity, singing, chanting, and demonstrating the power of unity.
Signature EventPost-walk gathering at Crestone Town Center. Community members are welcome to join. Participants share reflections from the walk and connect with local Crestone residents.
Introductory workshop exploring how different traditions approach peace — through prayer, meditation, service, song, and community. Small-group sharing and reflection.

Open morning practice — choose from yoga, walking meditation, journaling, or silent sitting in the mountain air.
Experiential workshop exploring how different traditions use music and sound as spiritual practice — chanting, kirtan, drumming, gospel, devotional song, and mantra. Participants learn and share practices from their own tradition.
WorkshopRestorative sound healing session using Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, and voice. Free afternoon to rest and integrate.
The Peace Concert brings together musicians from multiple faith traditions for an evening of global rhythms, devotional songs, kirtan, reggae, gospel, and sacred music. A public celebration open to the Crestone community — demonstrating that music is the universal language of the spirit.
Signature EventGuided meditation practices drawn from multiple traditions — Vipassana, Zazen, Christian contemplative prayer, Sufi breath practices, and Indigenous grounding ceremony. Participants experience and reflect on the common thread.
WorkshopLeaders and practitioners from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Indigenous traditions, and Rastafari gather in dialogue. Theme: What does your tradition teach about peace, service, and our responsibility to one another?
Round TableCommunal vegetarian lunch. Open afternoon for personal rest, journaling, or informal conversations with fellow participants.
The art of sacred storytelling as a bridge between traditions. Participants share stories from their own tradition and listen deeply to others — discovering the universal themes that transcend every boundary.
WorkshopCommunity devotional gathering with kirtan, chanting, and prayer in the spirit of all traditions.
CeremonyMorning meditation and nourishing breakfast before a full day of sacred site visits.
Begin at Crestone's Tibetan Buddhist centers. Receive teachings, participate in practices, and understand the depth of the Vajrayana tradition that has called Crestone home for decades.
Interfaith Tour
Visit this beloved Hindu ashram, established by devotees of Babaji. Participate in chanting, fire ceremony, and experience the living tradition of Vedic practice in the American West.
Interfaith TourExperience the Christian contemplative tradition at this Carmelite monastery. A time for silence, walking meditation, and encounter with the mystical heart of Christianity.
Interfaith TourVisit the striking Crestone Ziggurat and the Zen Mountain Center — experiencing the full breadth of Crestone's remarkable spiritual landscape from ancient Mesopotamian to Japanese Zen.
Interfaith TourGroup reflection: What did you encounter? What surprised you? What connected you most deeply to another tradition?
Evening dialogue session building on the day's experiences. Theme: Where do we disagree, and how do we hold that with love?
Round TableGrounding morning practice before a day dedicated to selfless service.
All participants engage in hands-on community service projects in and around Crestone. Projects are chosen to be meaningful, sustainable, and rooted in relationship with the local community — from land stewardship to supporting local organizations. Rooted in service, building for the long term.
Seva · ServiceCommunity lunch after a morning of meaningful work. Free afternoon for restoration.
Collaborative workshop to draft the Crestone Charter of Peace — a living document expressing the summit's collective vision, commitments, and roadmap for long-term, large-impact collective work. Guided by the four pillars: Vision, Action, Unity, and Sustainability.
WorkshopA festive community dinner with cultural sharing, music, and stories from around the world. Participants bring songs, poems, prayers, or words from their tradition to share.
The most important conversation of the summit: How do we sustain this work? What concrete actions and structures will we build together after leaving Crestone? Participants make real commitments to ongoing collaboration, projects, and community.
Round TableA ceremonial signing of the charter created in yesterday's workshop. Each participant adds their name and tradition as a living commitment to the ongoing work.
CeremonyOpen afternoon for integration, personal practice, final mountain walks, journaling, and informal conversations with new lifelong friends.
Closing full-group workshop on personal spiritual practice as the foundation of global peacemaking. How does inner work translate into outer impact? What do we carry home?
WorkshopAn intimate final evening gathering. Representatives from each tradition offer a closing prayer or blessing for the work ahead.
CeremonyFinal group ceremony at sunrise, overlooking the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. A moment of gratitude, blessing, and commitment to carry the spirit of the summit into the world.
CeremonyLast communal breakfast. Exchange of contact information, final reflections, and heartfelt goodbyes between new friends and collaborators.

Vajra Vidya Retreat Center
All participants stay at the beautiful Vajra Vidya Retreat Center for the full 8 days and 7 nights of the summit. This Tibetan Buddhist retreat center provides a sacred, serene environment perfectly aligned with the spirit of the gathering — nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Crestone, Colorado.
Accommodations are fully provided as part of the summit experience, allowing participants to be completely present for every aspect of the program.
